Not My Small Diary is always such a pleasure to read and this issue is even more enjoyable than usual because it’s about The Power of Music! As a music lover myself, I’m always interested to learn how others are moved by the tunes. Specific songs, live performances, or just artists that somehow connect, the power music has on so many people is just incredible. Within these pages Delaine Derry Green collects a wide range of individual musical experiences from over 50 artists and writers and shares their stories as told by their own hands! The finished work is a rhythmic composition of beautiful styles spanning the breadth between the roughness of old-school underground to the polished draftsmanship of commercial work! The personal experiences shared through these stories really hit home for me. Music has been such a big and important part of my life it’s easy to relate to the various tales. Even my mother-in-law’s friend (and terrific singer in my opinion), Slim Whitman, gets a mention in this comic! The variety of stories and experiences couldn’t be any better!

Not My Small Diary #19 (Unexplained Events)https://buff.ly/2nm3BLu and https://buff.ly/2nw9c1M is a 104-page, B&W anthology edited by Delaine Derry Green with cover art by John Porcellino and illustrated contributions from 43 artists!
What a great collection of spooky and weird stories all artfully illustrated by a bunch of talented people! Now, I’ll state this right up front, I am a huge skeptic of anything supernatural. I love scary stories, horror movies, and a good fright, but I just can’t bring myself to believe in anything that seemingly violates the laws of nature. However, with that said, I did thoroughly enjoy Not My Small Diary #19 (Unexplained Events)! The stories cover all sorts of strange occurrences from mysterious sounds, to doors opening by themselves, to actual sightings of unexplained things! The great variety of topics (aliens, ghosts, curses, and more) and illustration styles make this a fun read no matter what you personally think about the subject of “unexplained events.”
The contributors to this issue are really a who’s who of the small press comics world too. Gracing the pages of Not My Small Diary #19 are: Carrie McNinch, Peter Conrad, Noel Franklin, David Lasky, Jason Martin, Kelly Froh, Jenny Zervakis, Donna Barr, Max Clotfelter, Andrew Goldfarb, Colleen Frakes, Mark Campos, Rob Kirby, Ben Horak, Joe Decie, Asher Craw, Missy Kulik, Misun Oh, Rachel Scheer, Simon Mackie, Charles Brubaker, Graeme McNee, George Erling, Elmore Buzzizyk, Chad Woody, Brad Foster, Lee J. Green, Jason Young, Liz Prince, J.T. Yost, Andrew Willmore, Jim Siergey, Patty Leidy, Pete Wentzell, James Burns, Fafá Jaepelt, John Porcellino, Micah Liesenfeld, MariNaomi, Kevin Van Hyning, Roberta Gregory, Mike Kraiger, and Adam Pasion! All this talent bundled together in over 100 pages of weird, bizarre, and strange stories is almost too good to be believed!
Have you seen this crazy thing? It’s a full-color jam comic by 25 artists in which each artist only saw the page before theirs. When all the drawings were done Billy McKay wrote a story around them (in rhyming verse even). The other artists are Billy McKay, Marc Palm, Max Clotfelter, Jeff Heidel, Dale Martin, Ryan Holgerson, Micah Liesenfeld, Chad Woody, Henry Knoth, Warren E. Elliott, Jimbo Easter, Nate McDonough, Andrew Goldfarb, Adam Yeater, Jesse Thomas, Oryan McGowan, Joseph Tenney, Pam Bliss, Suzanne Baumann, Carrie McNinch, Jason Young, Bruce Orr, Bob Corby, Tom Cherry and Bob Vojtko. Pretty great list!
Mörfhttps://buff.ly/2m2ybeT is a 28-page, full color, digest size, exquisite corpse style continuous story illustrated by 25 artists. Created, written, and edited by Billy McKay.
This creative comic is the brainchild of Billy McKay. Billy’s vision was to bring 25 artists together and share a single image of his character Mörf with them, one artist at a time. The first artist was to draw their version of the character, changing as the liked, based only on a single image provided to them by Billy. The second artist then received the first artist’s drawing and repeated the process, and the third artist received the second’s and so on, and so on until all 25 artists had drawn and changed Mörf. After all the drawings were done Billy collected them, colored them, and wrote a continuous poetic story that stretched across all versions of Mörf and tied each image into the next! What an impressive undertaking, and what a visually stunning and delightful book!
The talented artists featured in Mörf are: Billy McKay, Marc Palm, Max Clotfelter, Jeff Heidel, Dale Martin, Ryan Holgersen, Micah Liesenfeld, Chad Woody, Henry Knoth, Warren Elliott (that’s me!), Jimbo Easter, Nate McDonough, Andrew Goldfarb, Adam Yeater, Jesse Thomas, O’Ryan McGowan, Joseph Tenney, Pam Bliss, Suzanne Baumann, Carrie McNinch, Jason Young, Bruce Orr, Bob Corby, Tom Cherry, and Bob Vojtko!
